Per-suede me?

From Amazon

gMarie found these boots (or at least their twins?) on Shoedazzle.  I don’t know Shoedazzle and haven’t pulled the trigger, because the bigger problem is that I have a bias against suede.

Now, I’m a HUGE fan of leather, especially for boots and cool weather shoes.  I also have to confess that I’m a low maintenance girl.   Don’t scoff…  I mean that I am not good at oiling/cleaning leather, can’t tell you where my little suede brush is, etc.

So with that in mind, I have four suede shoes/boots already.  The most-worn, two summers of use old yellow Hush Puppies platforms are looking a little rough.  The turquoise Nine West flats, which were actually sprayed with whatever treatment thing, would at least get a brushing if I could find my suede brush and/or could remember get a new one.  The hot coral Sofft wedges I bought this summer are fine, but I’ve REALLY babied them because I paid more for them than I would have liked to pay for suede.  Last but not least, I have my Crocs boots, well-worn in some of the worst weather last winter, and they’re totally fine… as I recall, from when they were shoved in the back of the closet last spring.

Crocs being discussed

Are there suede fans out there?  I know real vs. faux probably matters, but I truly am ignorant, and now, I’m flummoxed as well, as the Crocs boots have had NO maintenance, no protection, no babying, and they look none the worse for that hard wear, unless you count all the white dog hairs woven into the cloth turn-down cuff…

So.  Per-suede me, either way…

I like leather because it is durable and fairly low maintenance. Suede is soft and pretty, but not practical for my lifestyle.

What Nancy said. On the other hand, some things sometimes speak to you and croon that they’re worth the effort. (Only believe it if you’d still wear them when they’re spilled on and muddy and and.)

I’ve been a sucker for suede since high school when I wore nubuck saddle shoes. (Wow! Did you see that long-ago era swoop by?) There are lots of cleaners and sealers for suede that work well, so I continue to buy suede shoes. The thing I love most, however, is my washable suede jacket.

I’m not a huge fan of suede, mostly for the upkeep and how bad it can look, esp in winter. I do have faux Uggs… I think the Bear Claw brand or some other, that I do adore. But I wouldn’t drop a LOT of $$$ on suede… however, those boots ARE cute!

Well I think for the price of the SD boots, even if they only last a season you can’t go wrong. I know you are lower maintenance and don’t like schleping something along – but I sometimes carry my suede and higher heels with me to work and wear flip flops or flats for driving and then change when I get inside.

Also – I think the sole makes a huge difference. If the sole is very flat and the suede is likely to get wet from walking in grass, rain, etc. That moisture tends to wick right up and make your shoes look like hell. Seriously! So, I would say buy them, treat them and enjoy them. They will seriously up the wardrobe a notch.

By the way – I wore the new boots yesterday and loved them. Comfortable all day, cute, stylish, not tight on my full figured calves. I so wish I had bought the grey too. Darn it! g

I don’t wear boots unless forced to. It’s one of my quirks. And I’m not a big fan of suede, because I’ve never figured out how to NOT get it water stained. Sorry, but I’m no help at all!

I LOVE suede!!! Suede anything! I have shoes, boots, hats, coats, jackets and skirts of suede. I love the feel of suede and I don’t care how much work it is. IT’s so luxurious. Like G, I used to carry mine till I got to my destination, but here the winters are so mile I don’t really worry. Last weekend I bought two pairs of suede shoes and I love those red boots, but I really don’t need more boots. Hmmm….

Well here in lies the problem:: AL says you don’t use salt on your roads in Va. In these here parts, they salt the sh-t out of everything. So your boots, suede or otherwise, have a seeping salt line in them…almost no matter what. THis is a big problem, but we have big snows to deal with here …..so its salt or accidents and I’ll pick the icky salt…
