The Best Love

(Taken by MJ last Friday morning at the office, pre-Sissy.)

The Day Before Christmas

“Tis the day before Christmas,
And all through the house,
The puppies are squeaking an old rubber mouse.
The wreath which had merrily hung on the door,
Is scattered in pieces all over the floor.

The stockings that hung in a neat little row,
Now boast a hole in each of it’s toes.
The tree was subjected to bright-eye whims,
And now, although splendid, it’s missing some limbs.

I catch them and hold them,”Be good I insist!”
They lick me, then run off to see what they’ve missed.
And now as I watch them, the thought comes to me,
That theirs is the spirit that Christmas should be.

Should children and puppies yet show us the way,
And teach us the joy that should come with this day?
Could they bring the message that’s written above,
And tell us that most of all, Christmas is love!

I’ve always said Mugsy was the first and best Christmas present the Knight gave me.  One of his hundreds of nicknames is also “Best Love.”  Not that he reads my blog, but it somehow eases my mind and soothes my heart to tell all of you that dearly as I love Sissy, Mugsy remains number one in our house and in my heart.  He has 12 years of unconditional love and companionship going for him, and he’s still a cutie pie.  His sweet patience with Sissy only proves that he really is a prince among Jack Russell Terriers.  I hope that in time – shortly? – he’ll come to adore Sissy half as much as she adores him, because we certainly didn’t bring her into our home to make him miserable!

It’s still all about you Mugs.

(And yes, any of you who have tried to housebreak a puppy this time of year already know that the skirt was taken up early Monday, after Sissy left a little wet present of her own…)

He isn’t just a cutie pie, at times he is very handsome. I love that picture, where he is sleeping. He is such a angel. Hugs and Kisses, to Mugs.

  2. Mary says:

Oh what a great shot!! He looks so peaceful and is the first Christmas present under the tree 🙂
    Love the poem too!

  3. Mindy says:

Good luck with the housebreaking. Sissy is adorable. Hopefully Mugsy won’t get too jealous, but he’ll always be special too, won’t he?

  4. Robin in VA says:

    How sweet…Mugsy and your post!!

Mugsy looks so well. I hope he is feeling well too. I am so glad he liked his goodies. I sent a soft toy so it will be easy for him to pick up and carry around. Oliver loves soft toys and is a notorious soft toy thief! I am glad that Master Mugsy loved his pressies and that Sissy will get some too. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

  6. Sue J. says:

Oh, such a wonderful poem and sentiment. Why is it you just mention your love for your pups, and I puddle up? You are going to have a wonderful Christmas, despite the absence of a tree skirt.

  7. Lora says:

My first thought was how sweet, sleeping on the tree skirt. My second thought was, I wonder how long it will last. At my house it wouldn’t stand a chance. On the bright side…Sissy didn’t bring down the tree.

  8. Bubblesknits says:

Mugs is exactly the right color for the bright red tree skirt. Cheerful Christmas and Mugs pix!

Isn’t Mugsy just “gawjus”, and I’m sure he’ll grow to love his little sis very soon, and they will be inseperable.
Merry Christmas my friend, hope it’s a funfilled one for you all.

  12. Tip says:

I guess there is still one more postal service before Christmas, so hopefully your parcel will still arrive in time. If not, I’m so sorry, but have a great Christmas anyway.
