Celebrate, Celebrate!

Happy Birthday, Princess and to Anne!  Many thanks for all of the birthday wishes and cuddles; Sissy has gotten them all and then some already.  We’ll have a little party at the house tonight…

Hide & seek?

Hide & seek?

Another cute photo from Anita, taken last month.  I knew when I saw it again yesterday that I wanted to save it for today.  Is it not the silliest photo ever?  I know Anita played with Sissy, but I didn’t know they played hide and seek…

Technically, she’s my anniversary gift from the Knight, but he also kept telling Sissy he was getting HER a baby sister…

The breeder called her Maggie, but no fewer than a dozen of my friends and relations have or have had a Maggie pet.  According to one website, Maggie is the most popular pet name right now.  My life reflects that.  I had a name picked out, and was going to call her Cami, but the Knight didn’t like it, and she’s no Cami.  Her personality is VERY similar to Sissy’s, in that she’s deceptively sweet and calm, and then when she’s comfortable, she bounds and bounces and runs…

Sissy is being even better than we’d hoped.  Because the baby had been being paper trained, we were going to have her try her first night in the crate, as the Knight and I know nothing about un-paper training.  We tucked her in after some supper and a snuggle in her Dadaw’s lap, and she settled right down.  We all slept for a few hours, and then she cried out.  Sissy and I stumbled out to her and went outside, where she made a nice little wet spot, Sissy did much more of the same, and we tucked her back in…

Sissy was soon out of bed and staging a sit-in at the crate.  Baby cried quite a bit before the sit-in began, as evidently, Sissy had decided that just wouldn’t do.  So, baby spent the night on a folded bath sheet between our pillows, with Sissy happily in her spot at my knees.

We went out one other time before the slightly premature 6:10 wake-up lick.  The little monster didn’t want to go out in the cold; she wanted to play.  Sissy normally does the same thing between 6:20 and 6:30, so it would seem the right girl came home with us.

So, to celebrate Sissy’s birthday, our new arrival, and 11 years of wedded mostly bliss, we’re having our own Oktoberfest.  The contest runs through November 1.

Please leave me a comment with your favorite fall vacation destination, explaining why it is your favorite spot.  (It can be a day trip, whatever!)  The winner will be selected by the random number generator.  Prizes will include something yarnish, a treat of some sort, and something that gives a nod to two happy dog-girls…

And we’ve FINALLY settled on a name.  (Just this moment… hence the lack of a name above…)  She shall be Aerial.  I’m still working on her registered name, but I wanted something not serious (and aerial does have an obscure meaning that IS “fanciful” ironically) but not too weird either.  So, the Knight and I bantered around fire department related names on the ride home last night, while the little nut was nestled on my right shoulder, tucked against my neck.  Our firehouse doesn’t have a ladder truck (aka: aerial), which bothers some of our members.  Now when they moan about not having an aerial, Asst. Chief Knight can correct them!

The synonym to Ariel, the Little Mermaid of Disney fame, is a fine touch too.  As you can see, she’s got rather auburn hair, and we sure are hoping she’ll love to play in the surf at the beach.

There’s not really much need for a weekend report.  It will involve Sissy and Aerial, lots of “let’s go potty!” and hopefully, a fine meal out tomorrow night.  I’m missing the River City guild meeting, but the Knight begged out of an event with his friends to spend the day with me, so…

I’m also still predicting an FO report on Fredfoot any day now.  It was only right that I did a few rows en route to pick up Aerial yesterday.  She’s a gal Fred would have loved too, I’m sure.  Then, I have some gift knitting to do for a birthday and some special gifts that are a bit overdue to those who helped me let go of dear little Mugsy…

What about you?  Any yummy dinner plans or fun happenings in your corner of the world this weekend?

Happy Birthday Missy Sissy! That is a fabulous picture, it does in fact look like she’s playing hide and seek. That was my thought before you said it.

Welcome Arial. You are precious. What a sweet photo of Sissy looking at you while you are under Sissy. You girls are gonna keep your mom busy and young.

And Chan – I would have thrown Sissy into the crate with Arial not put Arial in bed. But the size of my dogs is so much greater than yours.

Okay – favorite fall destination? We have loved vacationing in New England. However for a day trip the North Cascade Highway Loop. it’s a beautiful drive through the mountains. Just a day trip, great fun roadside diners with great food, more of trees that ‘turn’ mixed with Evergreens and even some snow already. Big fun can be had by everyone – dogs included.

    Happy Anniversary – it’s tomorrow (JB’s birthday) right? g

  2. StarSpry says:

Happy Birthday, Sissy! What a silly picture 🙂 Aerial is SO adorable!!! And I really like the name, too.

I would love to go to New England in the fall when all the leaves are changing colors. In Colorado, a nice day trip is to drive on I-70 into some mountain towns and see the Aspens change colors.

Happy Anniversary! Have a great weekend. We have a b-day party tomorrow and hopefully on Sunday I can just relax and knit.

  3. Monet says:

What a cutie-pie!!! I know that Sissy will love having the company.

Happy Anniversary! Ours is tomorrow – 5 years! We are going out tonight to celebrate, though, because tomorrow is bussy, busy with the youngest son’s school activities.

Enjoy your weekend and the new puppy! That’s what I have been hinting out for my birthday in November.

Favorite vacation spot – the hubby and I spent a wonderful vaction on the island of Chios, Greece. It’s the closest island to Turkey and from our hotel room we could actually see the coastland of Turkey – it’s 3 miles away. Very peaceful place, not a lot of tourists. It’s actually one of the islands where the ‘locals’ go to hang out and get away from the tourists.

  4. Nancy says:

Oh, so precious! 🙂 Happy Birthday, Sissy, welcome little Aerial, and Happy Anniversary to you and the Knight.
My favorite Fall vacation? Well, I would say any drive that shows the gorgeous fall leaves changing would be a favorite. I’m always surprised when I drive south on the GSP in NJ that there is so much color. It was very pretty in New York State last weekend. I’m very glad I got to experience that.
Weekend plans? Well, not too much. I’d really like to get some blogging and knitting in. I’ve been behind on both. Kathy asked if we were going to carve a pumpkin, so that might happen, if Uncle’s status is unchanged. I haven’t done that in years, and I guess that they don’t have pumpkins in the Keys…so why not?
    Enjoy yours!

    Awww. aerial.. .how cute…

Happy anniversary, and again happy birthday to Sissy… and happy adoption day to Aerial… 🙂

    My favorite fall spot…

Apple picking.. any old orchard will do… but I love the ones that have the hay ride or some such thing out to the picking spot… and other such fun things for the Littles to do at the orchard! 🙂 I love the smell of the apples mixed with the slight chill of fall… it’s just a fun trip!

Aerial is precious!!! Makes me want a baby of my own 🙂

Love all your pictures – especially Sissy playing hide and seek.

In Fall my favorite destination is Solvange, California. It’s a fun danish tourist town about 30 minutes from Santa Barbara where I grew up. In the Fall it is particularly fun because the shops bulge with gifts and speciality food items while the crispness of the air makes it really feel like the holidays as well.

  7. grace says:

Love both of your babies, and congratulations on your anniversary.

My favorite fall event/destination is the after party held at Egan & Son’s the day of the New York City marathon, a dear friend Gary runs every year and then we party at his sister’s Irish pub. And of course Thanksgiving is another favorite of fall. Just a nice ride to the mountains to leaf peep is always fun and we went to Lake George two weekends ago to do that, and tomorrow we had to Connecticut for more of the same, sunday in NY State for a winery tasting and nice lunch in a hilly scenic area of the Hudson.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Happy Birthday Missy Sissy!
Happy Anniversary to the Knight & his Queen!
Welcome Aeri…. you are such a precious little babe!

My favorite fall spot? The White Mountains in NH… nothing compares to the amazing foliage colors up there! Its simply breathtaking if you hit peak foliage on a good year. I also have a new favorite fall spot – Kennebunk, Maine!

  9. Bubblesknits says:

Happy Birthday/Anniversary/New Pup Day!!! 🙂 I kept checking my email last night for pictures. LOL What a cutie! I love the picture of Sissy standing over her. Give Miss Aerial a big snuggle for me, please.

My favorite fall spot is Gatlinburg, TN. Absolutely gorgeous and fun. I love going there, but I haven’t convinced the hubby yet to make a trip yet. He doesn’t know what he’s missing out on!

  10. Robin in VA says:

Oh she’s adorable!!! Welcome Ariel, maybe you’ll meet Rudy one day! Happy Birthday Sissy!!!!

  11. Sue says:

She’s adorable. We always wound up putting them in bed with us, too. Hope you stocked up on sleep before she arrived.

What a fun weekend you have ahead of you. Happy Anniversary.

  12. anniebananie says:

    1. Happy Birthday to Sissy and welcome Ariel! Are you going to call her Ari for short? She is so adorable, I just want to pick her up and cuddle! Will she get as big as Sissy? Sissy looks HUGE compared to her in the picture.

    2. My favorite fall trip – why Rhinebeck, of course! MFF is a close second, however. And do I really need to tell you why? I think you can guess… 🙂

    3. A very HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! to you guys! Have a wonderful weekend!

  13. Wendy says:

Miss Sissy’s little sister she is indeed! I can’t get over how much they look a like! And it looks like big sis is going to be a responsible care taker too. She had a great big brother to teach her. Happiness is abounding in your house!!!! YEAH!!!!

  14. Anne says:

OMG she’s adorable. Both of hers! That picture with Sissy on the tree is just friggen adorable.

And happy anniversary to you, dear one, give Mark a big ole hug from me, too, and have him return the favor your way =)

  15. Wendy says:

Oh and I guess I should enter the contest by saying that usually I love driving home to PA to see my family for my b-day in fall. The mountains make the drive a delight and I’m actually sad to see the driving part end. This year, mom and dad came to me so I missed out on that part. But the trees weren’t ready yet anyway.

  16. Natalie says:

So exciting!! Love the pictures!!!! Welcome to the family Aerial! Have a great Anniversary this weekend and have fun with the new addition!!

My favorite fall destination right now would be the mountains…or off to Ohio to visit Kenny’s family. I miss his mom. 🙂

  17. What a lovely addition to your family! Both girls have similar coloring, right? It’s fun that they’ll even LOOK like they belong together. Enjoy your weekend of celebrations and, as with all new babies, don’t forget to sleep when you can. 🙂

  18. Oh, where do I go for a Fall vacation? Seriously? Anywhere I can! I love a trip up to the North Coast, especially just south of Mendecino. But for a day trip, maybe even tomorrow if life is good, we go to Apple Hill up by Placerville. The leaves turn pretty colors and the apples, pumpkins, and squash add to the colors. Baked goods and crafts, and nice picnic spots make this a winner!

  19. Anita says:

OMG! Aerial is just absolutely adorable!!!! I just love that photo of Sissy standing over her trying to look at her, too cute! I can tell that she already loves her to pieces. I don’t know why you didn’t just put her in the bed to start with, you knew that was where she was gonna end up. ha ha

LOL, luckily Sissy wasn’t a good hider for me! 🙂

Happy birthday to Sissy again. You & her both got a wonderful present!!

And a Happy, happy anniversay to you & the Night! Hope you get that wonderful dinner!!!

  20. Anita says:

    Oh! I forgot….

Favorite Fall Vacation…. we went to Nantahala one time in late September. Stayed in one of those wonderful cabins up in the mountains & went white water rafting. It was a great vacation & I’d love to do it again!!!

  21. Dawn says:

Oh my gosh I wish I could give Aeriel a smooch and smell her puppy breath. Congrats on your new baby, she’s beautiful! Too cute I’m just gushing over her!:) Happy Birthday Sissy too, love the hide and seek picture…that one is priceless!

Favorite Fall Vacation – Cambria, CA…its my favorite place anytime of the year. Love how the trees change colors, farmer market fresh harvests, apple cider to warm you up…gonna go pack now!:)

Have a wonderful weekend Chan! Have a blast with that new baby! Can’t wait to see more pics!

  22. Dianne says:

Oh, that little bitty Aeiral is soooo sweet! I wish I could smell her puppy breath and kiss her puppy belly! She makes a wonderful birthday present for Princess Sissy, and a fabulous anniversary present, too. Congratulations all around. Enjoy your weekend.

Oh, my favorite fall vacation was many, many years ago in Manchester Center, Vermont. It’s lovely there. Simply lovely. Very Norman Rockwell-ish. Or at least it was 20 years ago!

  23. Alana says:

You were right–that picture is TOO cute!! Give that Sissy a happy birthday bury-your-nose-in-her-neck for me.

And Aeriel… Oh. My. Goodness. She is adorable, and so teeny. *Insert shrieking and jumping up and down here* I wish I could come over and play with her!

Being a school marm, the only fall vacation I get is a trek to Minneapolis for teacher’s convention. However, that 300 mile trip provides some wonderful scenery, as the hills and variety of trees through Minnesota are gorgeous. We ooohed and aaahed many times last week as we traveled back and forth.

  24. Kathy says:

Wet Happy Birthday kisses to Sissy from the crew over here. (Mr. Bettis in particular sent a big slobbery kiss……….gotta clean the screen…….swipe)
Congratulations! What a cutie! She is absolutely adorable. A lovely anniversary gift, indeed.
We gave up on the crate thing the first night we adopted. The exception was Mr. Bettis who spent 3 nights in the crate with his owner sleeping on a makeshift bed beside the crate to keep him company:).That changed quickly.
My favorite fall trip is to the local mountains to do some leaf peeping and to visit a quaint yarn shop that is tucked in the mountains:).

  25. jen says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISS SISSY!!! my you are one tall pup!

And your new little girl is ADORABLE! what kind of dog is she? you know i was cheated out of my dogs as pups so i’m not sure what they look like as wee ones.

i have no idea where to tell you to go. somewhere fun, go with your gut instinct.

  26. KM says:

    Welcome little Aerial.

October anniversaries are the best! Mine was earlier this month.

A favorite fall destination…anywhere cooler than the 90+ temps. we’ve had here. I’d love to use a sweater or scarf.

  27. AlisonH says:

She’s adorable! Congratulations on the new arrival!

  28. Alison says:

Aerial is soooo sweet. Sissy seems rather taken with her. I’m sure she’ll soon be fully settled into the family. I would have put Sissy in the crate with her, but So long as you all got some sleep, it doesn’t matter.
Mouse has decided that she is a mummy’s girl and poor hubby had a terrible night with her last night while I was away at a conference, she wouldn’t sleep and wouldn’t eat for him.
I love going through a forest in autumn, my favourite one would be the New Forest in Hampshire England near where we used to live. Here in Auckland the weather never changes dramatically enough for strong autumn colours.

  29. Denise says:

This is my first time visiting, just wanted to say I loved reading about your new puppy and your pretty Sissy, they are both beautiful.
I don’t have a fav Fall destination because we don’t usually go anywhere this time of year, but if I could go somewhere it would be ‘New England’ I’ve seen so many beautiful pics of it in the Fall. I used to live on the east coast near Baltimore and the Fall there was gorgeous too. it’s not so colorful here in central Texas, right now we still have 80 degree weather!!!
I look forward to visiting again and seeing more pics of your cute girls 😉

  30. Nicole says:

Happy birthday to Sissy and happy anniversary to you as well as congratulations on that sweet little addition to your family!!!
Aerial is the perfect match to your sweet Sissy I think. They are going to have lots of fun and so will you!

  31. Criquette says:

Hugs to your beautiful new baby and to your birthday baby, too! They are such a good match and it sounds like they’re best friends already.

My favorite fall destination? I’d love to be in Charlotte, NC right now. I’d stay with my brother and SIL and we’d head up into the Blue Ridge mountains to take in the spectacular scenery, with lots of stops for eating and shopping and picture-taking!

    Happy anniversary!

  32. Robin says:

Your new addition is adorable! My favorite fall destination is the mountains of NC – given my recent trip – Asheville! Reason – the autumn colors, the fiber (yarn shops, SAFF), the fire in the fireplace at the hotel, the fresh apple cider, etc.

  33. Devon says:

Congratulations on the new addition, happy birthday and of course happy Anniversary. My favorite fall destination is Portland, Maine – the place is empty and we have it all to ourselves to walk around and enjoy our favorite restaurant, Hugo’s.

  34. KnittySue says:

Happy Birthdays and Anniversarys…the pups are adorable.
My favorite fall trip would be upper Michigan when the colors are changing….breath taking.

  35. […] forget the contest either.  It runs through […]

  36. Brooke says:

They are both so sweet! My favorite fall spot is in the hills of Tennessee. Beautiful foliage.

  37. Sarah says:

I’m so jealous! They are both so cute! I can’t get over the little one 🙂

I think my favorite fall place to visit is not really a speific location, more of any national forest or camping kind of place. I love to see the fall foliage and take pictures of all of it. It is also nice to go somewhere to go apple picking and pick out pumpkins. 🙂 I did that last weekend in fact.. Down past Fredericksburg, VA. It was great!
