As is the norm, my weekend didn’t quite go as planned. No, that’s not my car… The Knight and the duty crew did some fire training Saturday night, and I was asked to take photos. (Hem. My camera and I have a lot to learn about night photos, especially when there’s all that bright orange stuff going on.)
Those are our cheerleaders – really. (And no, the partial name on the back of the coat doesn’t belong to the wee lass, in case you couldn’t tell.) One is the daughter of a firefighter, and the other two are friends of hers, fascinated by the firehouse and a certain member. (Yes, I’ll post a photo of him shortly.) They made up their own silly cheers to encourage the trainees, but were really very entertaining and cute!
Before all that stinky fun, I did make an appearance at the all-day scrapping event. I managed to show up for the demo portion of the day, which involved stamping, which seems to be about all my mind can handle these days.
First, we made a Valentine. All the supplies were provided by the Stampin’ Up demonstrator, so my own personal preferences had little to do with the selections. Still, I liked using the die cutter for the big printed shape that is the bulk of the card.
Then, we made another card using an embossing die, which was fun, even if the colors nearly made me sick. But, I’m sure someone I know won’t mind receiving a school bus yellow card, so it’s all good…
The little flower wasn’t just colored with crayons, as you might guess. There was a neato pen filled with water… They’re called the Aqua Painter. It’s an expensive little bugga’, but I do believe I require it. (You know, for the stamping I’ll do when my mojo really leaves for more than three days?)
I think everyone’s favorite was the gift card holder. It was made from a solid strip of paper and is just cute as a button. I’ll definitely be making more of these. Beats buying silly stuffed animals to hold the cards for kiddos, and/or the little tins or whatever else the market to house the slips of plastic.
Sunday, I finished a pair of socks, and cast on for more, but we’ll save all of that for another post.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go do a snow dance and let the fur-girls out.
I love the cards! Let me know next time you go to one of these because I would love to come. Also, good pictures. Really. Those pre-teen girls are too cute!
BTW, our snow is gone. Children almost staged a coup this morning when they found out that school was actually on time.
Snow Dance? Does that mean it’s snowing or you’re dancing to ask for snow?
I can guess which one they are drooling over!
Have I mentioned that Daisies are my favorite flower? And that I might have one on my foot?
Have a great day. 🙂 g
I figured the little ladies would be admiring the stud (uh, fella?) on the right side of the photo… the one wearing the orange hat…
Our snow is gone downtown, probably at home too … sniff sniff. I was up letting someone in or out (one of the geriatric canines) right after it had started … it was really pretty coming down in the pool of light in the night sky…
Great cards – esp the gift card holders!
Sounds like the fire fighting was a fun adventure… and yes, cutie!
I would suck at making cards, I’ll stick with knitting.
And yes we have new snow today.
What cool cards!! The night pictures came out great..especially the car!
You have such interesting assignments.
Cool cards! My hubby is a volunteer photographer for the fire dept…..hasn’t done it in awhile because in his spare time was building our house. Very cool though. When Jimmy was little we’d take him to the yearly Fire Dept. day in May where all the different engine companies gather at the main training area so you could see all the different fire trucks, ambulances, helicopters etc…watch them put out a fire in the training building…so much fun. Then James uncle is a fire chief and visit there too but its a very busy station right in Los Angeles. Pics brought back memories can ya tell!;0
Wow, I love the cards, Chan!
What pretty cards! I do believe I could get into that craft if there just weren’t so many gadgets that I’d just “have” to buy! 🙂 Same thing with stained glass….
Your fire photos came out good, I really like the one with the orange stuff.
I’d say something brilliant, if I weren’t so tired. Just letting you know I was here today!
I’ve done some firefighter ogling in the past. 😉 We had some darn cute ones where I grew up.
Love the scrappin’ stuff.
i didn’t know that firefighters had groupies! interesting…
Catching up on my google reads!
Like that 1st V-day card and we got our snow day today!!! :oD Woot! Woot! It was soooo needed!
