I’m going to let you in on a secret. I HATE practical jokes. My father was a master of physical comedy, and the Knight loves a good prank too, but I don’t share their sense of humor. I’ve found that most pranks are actually mean-spirited, going back to a line I heard as a child about there being no such thing as an innocent joke. All jokes mock someone, or something…
I’m also sorry to say that with my hectic schedule – thanks to the Tall One for feeding us last night – I took photos of Ann‘s goodies, but failed to download them. Instead, you’ll get that other FO report from the weekend’s productivity.
Meet my Beach Bad Hairday Hat.
Pattern: #24 Crocheted Sun Hat, from Knit Simple. Thinking that I crocheted loosely, I went down a hook size, so the hat doesn’t fit me and the brim is more floppy than the model. Still, I love it, and as soon as I settle on a color and a cotton, I’ll be making another for me.
Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton, in natural. I like it a lot. It’s softer than some plain ol’ cottons, but I can’t find it locally anymore.
Hooks: Everything but the last round of single crochet was done with a G hook, and that round was done with an H. Boye, of course.
Verdict: It would seem that my crochet gauge is spot-on. I either need to learn to swatch or at least follow the pattern’s recommendations. Luckily, I have a friend with a cutiepie whose head should fit within…
I also neglected to share a prize I picked up on Saturday. A friend owns a GREAT gift shop here in town, and she had a spring fling a couple of weeks ago. I won the door prize.
Do you know Mariposa? I love their tableware. I have a thing for stars and starfish, so I’m looking forward to finding a reason to use this. That will mean entertaining somewhere other than the firehouse, no? If we make it back to the beach this month, I might have to take this along, just for atmosphere. I’m sure Gretchen is refined enough to appreciate tea and treats on this tray, on the front porch, if no one else is…
You need a close-up of the starfish. I think one of the reasons I’m falling for Mariposa is because it suits my life. I like to use “stuff” that makes me happy. That means the Knight uses them, and the dogs will be around them… Mariposa gets that, which means a lot more of their products will be coming home with me and heading out as gifts.
