Holding out for an Indian Summer

One year ago today...

One year ago today...

As common as an Indian Summer is around here, I have no great photos that show what it is.  Instead, admire this alittletooearlyforatrueIndianSummer photo of Amanda and Michelle, taken a year ago at the end of our Knitters Day Out weekend.

This hasn’t been a remarkable summer for me, so I’m quite content to let it go later today, when we transition to fall/autumn.   Despite the deaths that have come in the fall the last few years, I love this season, perhaps above all others.  I love the colors – especially the rich, deep wines – and the flavors of the season.  Bring on the pumpkin everything!  I love wrapping up in a shawl at night and in the morning, donning that first wool sweater of the season, and needing to wear my toasty handknit socks.

Still, Sissy and I are holding out for an Indian Summer at the beach.  We’re looking forward to getting sand between our toes and finding out what Gretchie thinks of the surf.  And if we get a few warm, beautiful days at home first, blessing abound!

What is your favorite season?  What do you like best about fall?

(And did I distract you?  No blocking happened at my house last night, so just keep waiting…)

Have I told you that Sissy rushes to the TV in the living room if I ask her if she wants to see Tony & Gibbs?  Yeah…  we’re a little hooked on NCIS…

I managed to watch House last night – so bring it!

I love Fall too, the crisp air. Feeling like you can walk for miles. My dogs love it too – so it’s nice to be outside, not too hot, not too cold. Just perfect – and pumpkin. I finished my pumpkin socks last night and wore them all evening (with my flannel pants).

Plus – for some reason, it’s easier to me to drop a few pounds in the Fall – crazy, huh? Okay – gotta get my coffee and get on the clock. I’m outa Rav until tonight 🙂 g

I’m so ready for fall. My turtlenecks really want to come out and be worn. When do you go to the beach? I hope Gretchie takes to the surf like HRH did (which really surprised me to no end! And no, I’m not comparing my daughter to your dog… well, maybe I am… oh heck, you know what I mean!!!

BTW, loved the pink tutu on Gretchie in the picture on Anita’s blog. Where was the purple one for Sissy?

Every fall I start looking at various types of trees, wondering whether I should plant one. A red Japanese maple? Or, my latest wish, a mango tree! Although that would require careful care to keep from freezing–the grower recommends Christmas lights all winter. My hubby is NOT thrilled at that.

The Fall the air cools and it’s a pretty Season:)Hugs Darcy

  7. Fall brings allergies and depression. I start concentrating on the holidays and after that Spring, my favorite season when everything comes back to life. Sorry if I’m a downer. We’re experiencing a week of rain.

We never had real summer. I think we had 3 weeks around 80 degrees. We watched House last night, and I’d like to watch NCIS, but my dearly beloved doesn’t seem to want to watch it this season. I still have about 6 episodes taped from last season for which he has not been in the mood. *sigh* Maybe with autumn. I like the colors. I hate cold. Too often, our leaves are brought down with snow and just stay until April or May. Our neighbor across the side street spent last year snipping at Ryan about the fact that we hadn’t cleaned up our leaves, until he finally told her to bring him all the leaves with our name on them which had blown into her yard. Then I hunted her up and told her to stop haranguing my 12 year old, or I’d call the police and report her for child harassment. Gee, I wonder why she doesn’t like me.

Fall absolutely and winter if there is minimal snow and ice, I have come to a point where the heat really bothers me, and I love a warm fire, a pot of soup, the smell of baking bread, candles glowing, leaves falling, snow flurries, orange yellow wine red and brown anything, like you the shawls, the sweaters, my winter coats (I am the Imelda of coats) My birthday our autumn trip to the beach, the best of the year. Yeah this is my time to shine!!!!

  10. Fall? It’s only 2:30 here, and the thermometer is pegged on 100 degrees….again! And it didn’t cool off for the last two nights in a row…can you tell I’m READY for fall? LOL…Love the mums.

Mugsy’s mum is beautiful and I love pumpkin everything too:).
You know the summer we had. Just. Like. Yours. But I love fall. The smell of the cool fall nights, leaves gently falling to the ground and the colors…….oooohhhh………the colors. God takes His paintbrush and uses nature as a canvas. I love it!

I think there’s something I love in each of the seasons. I’m so looking forward to fall now. It doesn’t feel like fall…over 100 today here. I’m looking forward to mums and pumpkins and my pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks.

I’m ready for fall, too. I don’t know when it’ll actually cool off around here. Normally we have a warm Thanksgiving, so???

Love the picture you posted of the Knight and Sissy. Heck, I love most any picture of Sissy. She always so expressive. 🙂
