Sis asleep on the job last week

If you’re here for Dogs on Thursday, please visit the girls’ blog, because Sis did a really sweet tribute post

You might recall a couple of weeks ago, we had no internet at home for about five days, due to a lightning strike, our DSL modem, and the ethernet card in our desktop computer.

I didn’t bother to tell you about the Knight getting his Blackberry replaced last week because suddenly, the volume control wouldn’t work, but now that seems a little relevant.  You see, we both installed major software updates about ten days ago, and then yesterday evening, my phone stopped doing ANYTHING but sending texts, and those were only going to email addresses, not to phones.  And I do realize our problems have nothing to do with each other, but if you haven’t read it here before, I don’t believe in coincidences.

My phone

Now, for the rant.  The Knight was ready and willing to upgrade my phone.  He wanted the new Droid.  None in stock.  He called me back; how about a slightly smaller version of what I had?  Fine.   Office phone rang again.  Nope.  Don’t have that either.  Doesn’t appear they have a SINGLE smart phone in stock, so they were able to do a master reset and my phone seems to be back to normal.

Great!  I don’t like change much, so if it ain’t broke (anymore) don’t replace it.  HOWEVER.

Sprint lost a sale just because they can’t manage their inventory.  How stoooopid is that?!  I know stuff happens, but how do you fail to have a SINGLE smart phone in stock?!

For the record, I’m done pretending I’m anything other than a very plugged in, techno-dependent girl.  When you have to note in your Gmail status that you can’t receive texts or phone calls via cell… you probably have a plugged in problem.  There.  They say admitting it is half the battle, but there’s no war here.  I am happy to be connected, almost 24/7.  But if you don’t know, I hate texting.  It has its place, but if you need to say more than “almost there!” or “What’s for dinner?”, email me.   That’s why I have a smart phone.

That makes Thankful Thursday easy as pie this week.  (Follow the link…  I am NOT happy that I didn’t think to have a wedding pie tower!)  I was born into a time where we still had a milk man and our phone was on a party line.  I remember picking it up and hearing Mrs. Chester talking to someone.  I do downtime; last night, I even closed my laptop while I was knitting, and many of you know that at home, my cell and I are rarely in the same room.

I love this technical age, and I’m thankful for my Blackberry, my Nook, my laptop, GPS, XM Radio, the Wii  and any other devices I’ve failed to mention that make it easier and more fun to do what I do.

Don’t call or text for a few hours though.  The Knight has my phone, and he knows how to use it.  Now that I know I have a working phone again, I can sincerely wish you a happy little friday!

PS – Anyone  have a recipe for a chocolate pumpkin pecan pie?  This is close…

Ah, makes me all the happier to not have most of those little gadgets. 🙂

I love technology, too, but I have a cell phone that must be an antique. It makes phone calls. It has no camera, doesn’t connect to the internet, doesn’t text. I have cameras and computers, all I want from my cell phone is to make phone calls. I got it just after 9/11 for safety purposes and I still forget to carry it most of the time, but it’s there.

As for apple pie, I have a whole blog post planned about it. Soon I’ll be trying a caramel apple pie. I’ll let you know what I think of it.

Poor Techno Girl! No one is giving you any respect–messing with all your toys! Maybe the tech mess-ups are a result of all those solar eruptions…okay, maybe not, but it sounds good.

Chocolate pumpkin pecan? Sounds devine. Let me know what you find. Sorry your phone broke – how could sprint not have any smart phones in stock? Crazy!

I text alot – but not conversations. Funny stuff from the bus, tweets, coordinating the ride home. You know – important stuff! g

I hate change too; as a result my old Palm is still with me! Kids want me to get an iPhone. Hmmmm.

Chocolate pumpkin pie sounds lovely…pass it on when you get a recipe. What’s it for??

I love technology…but I can say it’s sure nice when we camp…no TV…no computer though I still have my XMRadio—gotta have my tunes!

    That pie looks AMAZING!!

I am capable, but refuse to do the smart phone thing. I do not want to be able to check my email any time, any where. I don’t do texting. I rarely give out my cell phone number, because I don’t want it ringing when I’m doing something. I’m still using my comfortable Razr, and my kids love to laugh at me. But, then, I’m still only paying $45 per month, even with taxes!

I have a smartphone and it texts but doesn’t email, unless you go to the web browser and deal with gmail. My old Sidekick was better for emails, by far, but Microsoft bought them out and shut them down and even destroyed my data!

    I hate texting too. Snarl.

Chocolate pumpkin peacan pie sounds DEVINE. I stopped at our favorite pie place (an apple orchard/farm) on my way home last night and picked up my fave from them… peach/raspberry…. delish!

Good luck with the phone….. I’m now craving a Nook.

  11. Well…that covered a lot of ground! Hmm…now that I know we both have Sprint, I might just call you once in a while to hear your voice! Hopes for a good, restful, and cool weekend for y’all….

I never thought that I would go crazy if my internet or smart phone didn’t work, but I have. I’ve tried to distance myself away from being so ‘connected’ to the web, but its hard. Really hard some days.

  13. Kathy says:

    I don’t like change either.
I must admit that if my net is down, I’m not happy. I remember the days of a 4 party phone line too. Now that’s dating me for certain…..LOL

  14. Anita says:

LOL, i remember party lines! he he
You know I don’t like talking on the phone much… and I don’t have unlimited text sooooo… I think I’d be lost without my laptop now though. 🙂

I know what you mean. I’m hopelessly and happily connected to what the hubster calls my “umbilical cord”. Glad they were able to reset your phone. 🙂

I love Techno too…but it’s love/hate when your getting text upon text intermixed with calls but that’s only when someone is admitted to the ER …2x in a week for us..so the instant access to news and updates are most helpful but hair pulling too.

You make me laugh. I love my Blackberry. I have been debating downgrading to save money, but just recently discovered how wonderful Pandora is. I don’t think that will be happening. Plus It is almost the only source of communication between my cousin and I simple because of Blackberry messenger.

Chocolate pumpkin pecan pie? Never heard of it, but the more I think about it, the more I like it!!! Chocolate, pumpkin and pecans…what’s not to like?

I’m waiting for a phone upgrade. Our contract is up and we both need new phones, but I think I’d rather buy my phone and not have a contract. I sort of like being month to month and not thinking that I have to be with such and such company for the next 2 years. I take my laptop on vacation…and I’m sad when I don’t have wifi. That said, I do enjoy being unplugged for a bit. I just want it to be on MY time schedule.

I made a chocolate pumpkin bundt cake one year that was amazing. I think it was a Sunset magazine recipe…I wonder if I still have that. Hmmm.

  20. I just bought a new phone and I’m peeved too. I can’t get it to accept an mp3 as my ringtone!
