Foggy-headed

Happy Thorsday, little friday and Thankful Thursday!   I won’t even link to the girls’ blog this time, because frankly the post was more for my own records than for public “consumption” and the topic is … not lunch-friendly.

Gg’s also out of sorts; I believe the girl is depressed after enjoying her week as a working girl!

I’ll give you some fur-girl cuteness since it is Thorsday and all, but whether it was from the uninspiring factual record post mention above or from being earlier the past two mornings, I’m foggy and …

While I’m an early riser by nature, I’ve never been a morning workout fan.  Oh, I’ve spent plenty of dawns in the gym.  Back in my firefighter days, I got off work around 7am, and it made sense to just drive the few blocks to the gym, do my thing, then get on with my day, but I never loved it.  On weekends and holidays, or while we’re at the beach, the dogs and I do generally do our long walk after breakfast and before lunch, but that’s not the same as rolling out of bed, stumbling into appropriate attire and hitting the road before the sun does.

Don’t think for a moment that I take it for granted that my life is so easy-breezy that I can whine about being less than alert simply because I got up early to walk with the girls because it will be hot this afternoon.  I am indeed thankful that in these difficult times, my life is on an even (enough) keel.   My life is pretty charmed and I know it!

On the fitness front, I need to start figuring out what to do on cool mornings.  It was in the low 60s this morning, and short sleeves weren’t really comfortable, but a jacket would have been overkill, and my the second mile, a long-sleeved shirt would have been annoying me.  Does anyone wear arm warmers?  I could seriously knot each one on a dog’s leash when I warm up…

Oh — and that’s a BIG thankful!!  I love the cooler mornings and look forward to being able to walk the girls when it doesn’t get above 70.

Next up… tackling the cool weather walking sock search.  Do they make wool compression socks?

And is there a chiggers remedy?  I’m thinking that’s what has gotten Gretchen and me.  She has one under her front “leg pit” that is clearly a chigger bite…  Why isn’t our regular pest deterrent routine keeping those awful red menaces away?

Cooler morning temps are starting to settle in here, too. I LOVE it. While I love summer, I am soooo over the heat.

I remember taking many soda baths to relieve the itch of chigger bites. Good luck dealing with Gretchen and your bites.

I have no help. I start in short sleeves because I know within half a mile thanks to moving quickly and hot flashes. So I just tough it out at the beginning. So – no help at all today – sorry. g

I never knew about chiggers till I moved here and woke up in the middle of the night feeling like my legs were on fire. Coating them with clear nail polish relieves the sting, but I heard that a vitamin B supplement would help prevent bites and I guess it must work because in the last couple years I’ve only had a couple bites. Good luck, I hate those nasty little bugs.

It was cool enough yesterday for an after dinner walk! Holly was horribly behaved though (pulling and tugging at the leash and barking at passers by) and we returned home after a block to get the prong collar and then she was a saint. With that collar on, she’ll heel perfectly and sit at every stop before continuing without a bit of correction from me. Why is that?

I’m definitely foggy headed here. Work on the bathroom continues late into the night (11 or 12) and then I’ve been stumbling out of bed at 8. I hate when I turn off my alarm.

The extra-hot summer has brought incredible, die-hard chiggers to Texas. I’m sure their goal in life is to eat me alive! Nothing we have sprayed on the lawn has helped.

I love the arm warmers. I would so wear them if I ever got up in the early hours to exercise, which I never will!! I do admire people who can do that but after many years of being in the pool at 5:00 AM for a hard work out, I think I’ve earned the right to be lazy until at least noon. But you go girl and I’ll cheer for you from the sidelines!

Wear silk if you can. It’s the best thing for keeping your temperature comfortable when things are variable, ie cool outside but you’re warming up as you exercise.

YOu are so thoughtful about clothing dear Channon. MY goodness. I have to give muchmore thought to what I wear.

I have to start moving again……eating less in NOT enough

I feel foggy when I wake up in rem sleep.

Chiggars suck. I had them once and it was not cute.

And here Florida is in the midst of the two hottest months of the year….right when you are starting to cool down. Lucky you, after the summer you’ve had.
Frankly, Chan, if I didn’t work out first thing every morning, I’d never do it at all. Gotta catch the body off guard! 🙂
