Stitch Fix #1

Gee, I could have posted this one from work… because I took no photos.

325587_366_45But first, more on the boot saga.  Bags, dresses…  I’m always hunting for the perfect something.  It *IS* already hunting season here in the woods though, so just call me a retail bargain hunter.  Anyway, something inspired me to go hug and kiss   visit my beloved boots.  Oops.  I am a really rotten fan.  Turns out they’re Durangos, and they’re a half size smaller than what I thought, which makes them a full size smaller than most of my boots… I think.  Ugh.

They look a lot like this, only with tone-on-tone embossed stitching, and mine are really more awesome, because they’re old and have molded to my foot and… they’re just mine.

But back to Stitch Fix.   Have you heard of it?  A local friend had tried it, so when Barbara suggested it, I figured… why not?  I filled out the profile in as much detail as I could stand and requested tops for business casual for the new job.

My stylist nailed it.  The box included an ombre chambray shirt that I might have kept if I didn’t already have 3 chambray shirts AND I’m pretty sure ombre stuff is going to be a flash in the fashion pan.  It also included a great, raspberry (my color word… I think they labeled it magenta) short-sleeved blouse, but $68 and dry clean only polyester isn’t going to live in my house, or work in my more causal than business casual new job.  The last shirt was a great, navy and maybe slightly off-white polka dotted  elbow-length blouse… that I got on and then my wide shoulders swelled up or something and I thought I’d never get it off without ruining it.  (Don’t laugh.  NOW I understand how dogs and toddlers get their heads caught in deck railings.)

409530_AK13_FF_TVYThe pants were too long, with faux rear pockets (?!) navy legging-like ponte knit things.   I might have been tempted to keep them if I hadn’t just gotten the best leggings in the whole world, the Land’s End Starfish Cotton Spandex Legging.  Order a size down, and if you are small through the waist/upper hips, consider ordering TWO sizes down.  They’re seriously so awesome I might order them in every color.

And to round out the 5-item Stitch Fix box, there was the dark, hunter green ponte knit skirt with zippered, front pockets…  cry.  Like the awesome dotted blouse, it was too small.  Oh, because it was S-M-L sized, the next size up would be too big, and in another life, I would have Spanxed myself into it, but honestly, my turn the page new life isn’t going to require more skirts and dresses.

I did note that their sizing seemed more Junior than Misses to me, so I hope that’s not how their brands tend to run…

I did forfeit my $20 styling fee, but I will do it again… after I’m settled at the new place and have a real grip on what I’m going to want to wear.  With the holidays looming (Stitch Fix schedules about a month out), I don’t know that I’ll get another shipment scheduled before the New Year, but if you’re tempted to give it a whirl, would you consider telling them I sent you?  All you have to do is click on this link…  and next time, I might try my goodies on when I’m not rushing out to a meeting or something, and maybe you’ll get photos.

Have you tried anything new lately?

Oh the woes we girls go through to find clothes that fit! It’s never easy, is it? I went shopping yesterday to find some cute new things to wear to Parents Weekend, I leave in 2 days!!! I can’t wait to love on my Cadet :), anyway, I was looking for new jeans in Old Navy and came across the cutest sweatshirt. It’s just a simple gray, with a simple shape and a fab row of small round and teardrop “diamonds” at the neck. I am such an 80’s girl and I do love my Glitz. I also picked up a little black cardi, and a long, soft charcoal cardi. Then from Dress Barn, a pair of jeans and 5 new pairs of fun socks. Oh, also from Old Navy, a cute navy PeaCoat that was 50% off thanks to a FB coupon. I’m changing the buttons to something more fun to make it my own.

I love my Cadet! RAH VMI 2016 ❤ I love my Jedi!

This is the first time I’ve heard of Stitch Fix – it sounds interesting.

It does sound interesting. But so do they pick out clothes they think you’ll like and hope it’s not worth the effort to you to send them back?

There are no better boots in the world than old, worn in boots!! I love mine too. I’m having a hard time even thinking about clothes today since I struggled to find something to wear this morning and failed miserably. Result–I’m wearing an ancient pair of jeans and a black sweater. The outfit is just so-so even after throwing a long black scarf with white stars on it around the neck. Ho-hum!! Nope, don’t even want to think about clothes today!

I bought some new pumpkin spice tea at Trader Joe’s but that’s about all the newness I can handle in the middle of a work week.

  8. I’m confused. You say your stylist nailed it? Maybe I better go back a few posts to see what this Stitch Fix is. Okay hold off on that question.

Let’s see. I dragged myself to State College finally to do some Fall shopping. Store after store, nothing! I finally forced myself into buying jeans and flannel shirts at Target (love the new colors for flannel shirts:) but, I brought every last thing back. $229 later I went to both T.J. Max and brought that back too. My latest trip was to Ann Cole’s. They are still in the bag:) Have I tried anything new lately? Shopping. And I still detest it!

I sense you will find your new work style as you go along, Chan. It reminds me of those school days. I always liked it better when my mom took us shopping after school started!

    Thanks for sharing, Channon…

I’ve heard of stitch fix and I think it would be perfect for me, but I like Marshall’s prices. I did find a perfect dress on clearance at WHBM today. Would be perfect for hubby’s Gatsby themed Christmas party. But since they don’t have it in the store to try on…I’m hesitant. http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com/store/browse/product.jsp?maxRec=145&pageId=1&productId=570074977&viewAll=&prd=Lace+Overlay+Dress&subCatId=cat210002&color=&fromSearch=true&inSeam=&posId=11&catId=cat4809277&cat=&onSale=true&colorFamily=&maxPg=10&size=

I just have not been in the mood for new clothes for months now. Weird, right? Stitch Fix seems like it could be a great thing, but those choices you listed don’t sound like something you can’t live without. I think you’re right that you will be better able to decipher your new clothing needs once you get to the new job and see everyone else in action.

Anyway, I need to think about Mark’s birthday, which will have to involve fancy school clothes, much more than I need to think about myself.

Hi! Just thinking about you and thought I would check in with the blog. Fun to read your last few weeks of entries with fall fashion reviews, love it. Also loved the workout gear review from a while back. My new favorite compression cropped pants are a pair of Champion below the knee ones that I got on amazon. The big thing is that they’re plain and not see-through (one has to live in hope even with the purportedly non-see-through ones, though, right?!) I also have a pair from Old Navy from last year that are pretty good, but I went back for more and they weren’t the same quality. Big surprise there. I also find no matter how much I pay for tops they don’t look all that great quickly. OK anyway. This entry also made me think about my late great Durango boots that I wore hard for 20 years until all of a sudden something happened and they started to hurt me across the top of the foot. I could never find the same kind again–they were like motorcycle boots but without the little extra “belt” and hardware around the ankle. That probably doesn’t make much sense, but hearing about the Durangos made me think of my awesome boots. I’m still sad about them. Very glad to hear the news about the rummage sale! Was thinking about you the week of the first GMM. And! Big hugs and congratulations on the new job dearie!

I heard about Stitch Fix, but I was wary. Maybe I should try it. I’m glad the new job is starting off well!
