Hair and Back Again

Something like that... if it's really big...

Something like that… if it’s really big?

Can someone PLEASE explain how a hair clip – large barrette if you prefer – was able to hold my wild mop this morning when I left the house, but when I went to re-adjust, it refused to clasp again?  It won’t hold all of the tresses, but when I just pull the front bit out of my face, it doesn’t grip and I soon have loose ends flying and a wad of slippery plastic heading down my neck.

It’s hot and humid.  I wanted my hair off of my neck today, but I wanted something a little less casual than a good ol’ “ponytail holder” as I know them.  (A hair-friendly “rubber band”??)

Do tell what you use to use, especially if you have longer, unruly hair.

Hmm when my hair was long.. and you saw how I’ve cut the back completely off!!!
I would french braid it all the time. I could do it in my sleep. I should have done it for you when we met! I also bought many clips to use . I loved a half pony.. but the look was not great on me.
Happy Hair. sorry so humid. Our weather is IDEAL today. Sunny seventy and no humidity! want to visit?you know i” dhave you in a minute

I have only had hair below my shoulders once in my life. During that time I collected a bunch of clips, combs, and hair accessories none of which worked to hold my hair. Good old rubber bands or covered hair bands did the trick but were very hard on my hair. I suspect there is no easy answer but I understand your need because this weather is horrible! Our AC froze due to humidity and I fear the worst is not over yet. Good luck and please show us your solution to the hair problem!

Sorry, I can’t give any advice – my hair has been short, short for over 20 years.

Was your hair wet when you put it in this morning? I tend to find those pretty barrettes work fabulous when my hair is wet (and with extra grip maybe?), then not so much when it’s dry (and with more slip, maybe?). I have a drawer full that I don’t wear…. and instead find a claw style clip better suited for getting the hair up and off your neck in summer.

They don’t go with everything (but when I’m too hot I find that I just don’t care), but I love Crane Clips. I found mine on Amazon – you can also search for Croc Clips to see some different brands. Mine hold as much or as little hair as I want, so they’re great for keeping it all up or using while styling. HTH!

I use a big hair thingy. Essentially a piece of elastic encased in a wide strip o fabric. Wrap it around my hair and go. I can twist my hair around so it forms kind of a bun and wrap it twice.

If I have a little time, I twist my hair at the edges from about the ears back and tuck the left side under the right twist if you understand what I mean, then use bobby pins which are hidden by the hair to hold it in place.

Or have you tried those hinged hair combs? They work nicely, too, and make a pretty appearance in the back.

  7. Marjie’s solution sounded good. Those clips never work for me…too little and too fine of hair…

Bobbi pins!!! They are a life saver, especially in a bad hair day!

I was wondering wet vs. dry as well. Is it long enough to put into a loose pony and then pull through? the flip pony? I would do it higher up on my head so it wasn’t on my neck. I don’t know what the gripper clip is. Hair cut maybe??? g

I pull my hair back, then twirl it around into a french twist (tucking in the ends at the top) and secure with a medium sized scissor clip. It isn’t glamorous (meaning…I don’t care) but my hair stays up and I don’t have to fuss with a lot of pins. Keep in mind that I do go to work in DC…and I still don’t care what it looks like. Attitude, anyone?

At the end of the day, just before i start to cook dinner, my hair HAS to go up. I use either a coated elastic band, or the No Slip Grip, i think like the hinged hair clip Marjie suggests. Made by Goody, or scunci. I do the same thing Mary does….pull it back, twirl it around and secure it. I have fine, flyaway hair and that technique works. When i workout, its always a ponytail, and then either bobby pins to hold it off my face, or a headband with elastic on inside edge to keep it from slipping off my head. i CANNOT have ANY hair touching my face when i workout, or it raises my body temp by fifty million degrees! LOL.

It’s been so long since I’ve had long hair. Pretty clips never worked when I had long hair. I used bobby pins and rubber bands. Now I don’t have hair in my neck so one problem solved.

I don’t like wisps of hair in my face (another reason not to cut it short again). I found a beauty supply place that sells the combs we all used in the ’70’s to pull it back gracefully from the face and that stay in, even in my baby-fine hair.
