We almost missed it! Some places call May 6th Nurses Day, but Wiki says it’s today, so that’s good enough for me.
I don’t have the photo of my grandmother in her nursing uniform scanned into Flickr, but I do have this photo of my mother – also a nurse – and her mother. One of my mother’s cousins was also a nurse, and my father’s sister went to nursing school as well.
I have far too many friends working in the field of nursing to even try to name them. Then, there are the kind nurses who have cared for the Knight and me…
You know we can’t have a tribute to nurses without Nurse Lickey. Sassy and sweet… what more could you want in a nurse?
Thanks to all the nurses out there. It takes a very special person with strength and compassion to make a career out of caring for sick people.
You probably don’t know that my second daughter is in nursing school. Now, if she’d only get home, I could wish her happy nurse’s day! My mother in law was a nurse, too; she wanted to enlist during WWII, but her husband wouldn’t let her. We’re glad he didn’t.
A wonderful thing to celebrate!
Nurses are so unappreciated!
Nurse Lickey, aka Nurse Drooly, is one of our favorites. We all know the health benefits of Basset drool. Keep up the good work.
Happy Nurse’s Day/Week to all!
Lovely tribute (as are all tributes done by you). Love Nurse Lickey. Nurses are very underappreciated. Thanks for pointing this out. g
I’m with you, too many friends in nursing to try to thank them all. Love the nurse drooly!
Nurse lickey can be my nurse anytime! Too bad you can’t take her with her nurse hat on to visit people in hosipitals & such. People would get a kick outta that… even though we all know that Nurse Lickey is way too wild to sit still for people to admire. 🙂
Nice reminder of those who serve but never get enough credit for their work. I thought I would become a nurse (frankly, it was one of only two career options most school counselors offered to girls in my day; it was that or become a teacher). However, I did not pursue either…instead I majored in English Lit. Though frankly having four kids gave me plenty of opportunities to hone my “nursing skills” over the years!
If I ever get sick, I want Nurse Lickey to look after me!!! 😉
That is the BEST picture of Sissy! Where did you find the nurses hat???
Thanks for posting about Nurses’s Week. I forgot to. But it is such a great thing to celebrate!
I love that pic of Sissy! How adorable, and my bff is a nurse, I will have to call her and wish her a happy week! Thanks for letting me know 🙂
I wanted to be a nurse when I was growing up, so I volunteered as a candy striper at our local hospital. Needless to say, I realized I didn’t have what it takes to be a nurse!
