Happy Thorsday, little friday, Thankful Thursday and whatever else there is to celebrate!
The fur-girls have been working dogs much of this week, and you can read their take on it here. Or you can just admire my large paperweight…
I’m quite thankful that I can sometimes bring the girls to work. I enjoy having them here, and they clearly share that joy. Both girls know the word “work” which you might think could be confused with “walk” but their reactions are different.
WALK gets them bouncy, barking, and being obnoxious.
WORK gets them chattering, cocking their heads in cute, alert fashions. Very different behaviors, so while many dog experts insist they have difficulty differentiating between such similar words, I say hogwash.
What are you saying hogwash to today?

I am saying Hogwash to all the people complaining about the temporary fire station being placed near their homes. Half the people complaining are frequent flyers in town and should be GLAD the FD is so close to them. IT is temporary anyhow…geez.

I love that fur-covered paper-weight – does it wag its tail and swish unwanted papers off of the desk, too?
Hogwash – those who think reducing the deficit is going to be painless or that cutbacks are not necessary.
I say hogwash to the exact same thing! All 4 of ours can clearly differentiate between many words!
I think those so called dog experts haven’t owned or spent much time with real dogs!
When I was training Fudge for Rally I wondered if he could tell the difference between ‘stay’ and ‘stand’. I’m going to use a different command for stand so he understands what I want. I do think they can tell walk from anything else.
I’ve found that they respond positively to ‘do you want’ because anything that comes after those words is usually good.
I’m pretty sure dogs understand human language. I’m pretty sure they ignore what they don’t want to hear, much like humans.
Hogwash indeed!! Dogs understand everything they hear (and as Marjie said they disregard the things that don’t interest them). We can have two dogs asleep on the bed two rooms away, and if I say, “I think I’ll get a piece of cheese and an apple” we will instantly hear the sound of eight feet coming down the hall.
Hogwash! Dogs most certainly CAN and DO watch the television set. No, the horse never made a sound, nor did the dog on the screen, but boy howdy, the Grrrls sure reacted at just the right time anyway. Ohio, day 2. Went well, tho we think not as satisfactorily as day 1.
To the idea of the squirrels raiding every last apple this year. They’ll be mine all mine, bwahaahaa.
Love that they know exactly what you’re saying–of course they do. Anyone who’s been around a smart dog knows.

How nice that the fur girls get to stay with you at work! So much better than being confined and left at home ~ I really have paid much attention to Simcha’s discernment ability. I just know that the moment I start to put on make up or change clothes he knows I’m leaving the house and he wants to come too 🙂
Hogwash to a salesman involved with my work. Um, yeah, I asked you a question about timing of a product we’ve paid $2 million for with an additional commitment of $1 million. You told me how coincidentally you were going to call me and ask me out to lunch. Nope, just don’t believe that, Dave!!!
